Eileen Zegar, L.Ac.
Eileen Zegar holds a masters degree in Oriental Medicine from Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine. She is a NCCAOM diplomate in Oriental Medicine (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).
In addition to her studies in acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, acupressure and Eastern massage, Zegar received a massage therapy degree from the Institute of Psycho. Structural Balancing with additional training in advanced therapeutic massage and cranial sacral unwinding.
After her 2001 Stage II Breast Cancer diagnosis, bi-lateral Mastectomy and participation in a clinical trial, it became clear that she would devote a portion of her practice to assisting others along their cancer journey.
Zegar studied Tai Chi with Master Tim O’Connor of Tai Chi Worx in Los Angeles. Eileen was also trained in Constitutional Facial Acupuncture™ by Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, one of the leading proponents of facial renewal techniques in the world. Most recently she was trained in Subtle Spinal Manipulation by Dr. Benjamin Shields.
Eileen has taught at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, Samra University of Oriental Medicine & the Shiatsu Massage School of California in Santa Monica. She is currently on staff at the Simms/Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology, which is part of the UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center where she provides acupressure and massage in the infusion room weekly. In addition, Zegar developed and operates a no-fee acupuncture program for WeSpark Cancer Support Center in Sherman Oaks, CA.
Eileen is self-employed and operates her acupuncture business and treats her clients at our office on Tuesdays (12-6 pm), Thursdays (10-6 pm) and Fridays (2-6 pm). She uses the MindBody scheduling software used for booking other services at Live Well to make booking appointments in her available time easier. Melissa Monroe, Ph.D., L.Ac.
Melissa Monroe is licensed by the State of California and nationally certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She completed an intensive one-year Advanced Acupuncture Orthopedics course, making her one of the first professionals to become a Board-certified Acupuncture Orthopedic Specialist.
In addition to her private practice, Dr. Monroe has been a faculty member at Dongguk University and Samra University of Oriental Medicine, helped launch a community acupuncture program at USC-Martin Luther King Hospital in Watts in 2018, and teaches continuing education courses to other acupuncturists through eLotus.
Dr. Monroe graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola University Chicago with a B.S. in Psychology after completing a pre-med curriculum, and later worked as a research technologist at the University of Chicago. After several unsuccessful operations on a knee injury, she found remarkable rehabilitative results through yoga, Pilates, and acupuncture, and went on to study all three intensively — including Pilates teacher training with Romana Kryzanowska and certification as a Qigong instructor.
Patients come to Dr. Monroe for general wellness and prevention, as well as for existing conditions such as pain syndromes (neck pain, back pain, sciatica, headaches, carpal tunnel, whiplash, and auto accidents), women’s health (fertility, pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, and more), digestive problems, stress, anxiety, insomnia, and micro-needling for hair loss, aging skin, and scars.
